Dear Friends!

This has been a fabulous French season at Grinberg Classical Salon Series in celebration of the 350th birthday of Francois Couperin (1668-1733) and the composers in his circle. This year also marks the 5th year of the Grinberg Classical Salon Series – an intimate and enlightening series of Classical music salons in revival of the elegant European tradition of Hausmusik.

With the French season completed, I am delighted to announce my two upcoming summer salons, each one-of-a-kind program: on Sunday, July 22nd, at 5 p.m & Wednesday, July 25th, at 7 p.m., I will be joined by the magnificent mandolinist, Joyce Rasmussen Balint, for the MAGICAL MANDOLIN – a colorful collection of works for the alluring combination of mandolin and piano by Vivaldi, Bach, Handel, Hummel, Beethoven, Calace, Dvorak, Grieg, and Ravel. And, on Sunday, August 26th, at 5 p.m. & Wednesday, August 29th, at 7 p.m., don’t miss the ENCHANTING EVENING FOR FLUTE, HARP, AND PIANO, for which I will be joined by the fantastic flutist, Jessica Taskov, and a terrific young harpist, Violetta Norrie. This will be a unique program featuring both beloved and rarely-heard works by Mendelssohn, Schubert, and Turina, culminating with Mozart’s sublime Concerto for flute, harp, and orchestra (piano). Dear Friends!

I am delighted to be hosting the 5th year – and 10th Season! – of the Grinberg Classical Salon Series on New York’s Upper West Side, in revival of the old European tradition of Hausmusik in an intimate domestic setting.

This Fall, I am thrilled to curate a series of unique Grieg-themed salons in celebration of the 175th birthday of Edvard Grieg (1843-1907) – a leading Norwegian Romantic composer, pianist, conductor, writer, and humanist who said: “One must first be a human being. All true Art grows out of that which is distinctively human.” How very true!

Before the launch of the Grieg season, on Sunday, September 16th, 2018, at 5 p.m. & Wednesday, September 19th, 2018, at 7 p.m., I will present my solo lecture-performance – Fantastical Bach – showcasing all seven of Bach’s brilliant and rarely-played Toccatas, BWV 910-916, which testify to young Bach’s quirky, spontaneous stilus phantasticus. At the end of this month – on Sunday, September 30th, at 5 p.m. and Wednesday, October 3rd, at 7 p.m. – don’t miss the very first Grieg-inspired salon of the season, Celebrating Grieg and his Circle I, that I will perform with violinist, Emilie-Anne Gendron, as part of our G-Sharp Duo, followed by Celebrating Grieg and His Circle II on October 14/18. This Season, I am pleased to pair up with a young and charismatic cellist, Sebastian Stoger, for a memorable evening of Romantic Masterworks for Cello and Piano on October 28/31, which will include Grieg’s dramatic Cello Sonata in A minor, op. 36. Then, on November 11/18, I invite you to join me and the fabulous flutist, Jessica Taskov, for an enchanting exploration of Grieg and His Worldwhich will include Carl Reinecke’s captivating Sonata in E minor for flute and piano (“Undine“) – one of the most significant works in the flute-piano repertoire of the Romantic era. And, on November 21st, don’t miss my solo lecture-performance in tribute to Grieg at His Greatestfeaturing some of his finest works for solo piano, including his Neo-Baroque Holberg Suite, his impassioned Piano Sonata in E minor, and a kaleidoscopic array of his Lyric Pieces. Grieg’s elegant Waltz-Caprices and folkloric Norwegian Dances will follow in a scintillating showcase of Dazzling Dances for Piano Four-Hands on December 1/2, for which I will be joined by a terrific fellow Russian pianist, Elena Kushnerova. And you sure don’t want to miss the grand SEASON FINALE on December 16/19 – Grieg and His Friends – featuring Niels Gade’s unjustly overlooked Trio in F Major, op. 42 and Schumann’s fiery and seldom-played Piano Trio No. 3 in G minor, op. 110, alongside Mendelssohn’s elegiac Violin Sonata in F minor, op. 4, written when he was a 16-year-old prodigy, and Grieg’s soulful Allegretto in E Major from Violin Sonata No. 3 in C minor, in Grieg’s own arrangement for cello and piano. To preview the complete Fall 2018 salon calendar, scroll down below.

Looking forward to seeing you at these not-to-be-missed salons in celebration of Edvard Grieg and his circle!

Best wishes,

Dr. Yelena Grinberg, founder and the artistic director of Grinberg Classical Salon Series
