Dear Friends!

This Winter / Spring 2023 Season, I am thrilled to be hosting the 10th year of the Grinberg Classical Salon Series on New York’s Upper West Side – a one-of-a-kind salon concerts in revival of the old and elegant European tradition of Hausmusik –in celebration of Sergey Rachmaninoff’s 150th birthday and the composers within his circle!

Music is enough for a lifetime but a lifetime is not enough for Music,” said Sergey Rachmaninoff (1873-1943) – a Russian composer, virtuoso pianist, and conductor widely regarded as one of the finest pianists of his day and one of the last great representatives of Romanticism in Russian Classical music. Rachmaninoff is celebrated for his amorous expression, sweeping melodies, sumptuous, ultra-chromatic harmonies, bell-like sonorities, and rich orchestral colors. His prolific compositional output includes a number of orchestral works, choral works, many songs for voice and piano, three one-act operas, five works for piano and orchestra, a large body of solo piano music, works for two pianos, piano four-hands, and a few chamber music works, including two piano trios and his celebrated Cello Sonata. This coming Spring season, don’t miss one-of-a-kind thematic salons in celebration of Rachmaninoff alongside the composers who influenced him and followed in his footsteps, including works by Glinka, all five composers of “The Mighty Five” (Mussorgsky, Balakirev, Cui, Rimsky-Korsakov, Borodin), Anton Rubinstein, Tchaikovsky, Taneyev, Arensky, Medtner, Myaskovsky, Stravinsky, Prokofiev, Shostakovich, Schnittke, and Auerbach.

Looking forward to seeing you there!

Best wishes,

Dr. Yelena Grinberg, the founder and the artistic director of Grinberg Classical Salon Series
